Meet Hideaki Akaiwa.
When the earthquake/tsunami disaster struck Japan, Mr. Akaiwa got hold of some scuba gear and dove headfirst in search of his wife of twenty years (whom he had met surfing). Dodging debris of all sizes and fighting the swift current, he found her neck-deep in water and dragged her out of the wreckage that had once been their home. Both survived.
Days later, he went back to look for his mother and found her, too.
At present, Mr. Akaiwa routinely dives to look for survivors; a boss if I’ve ever seen one.
Warrior salutes your incredible courage, Mr. Akaiwa. Thank you for reminding us of the good we’re capable of and the warrior that resides in all of us.
